@GeicoTheQue on the Conrad Murray Trial

First of all. Sorry for the wait. Let’s get to the real.

So this Conrad Murray Trial is the talk of the town or at least was. I’m going to list the highlights so you get a picture of all the important points leading up to the outcome.

  • Conrad Murray was being tried for involuntary manslaughter of pop star Michael Jackson
  • It was reported that at the time of his death, Dr. Conrad Murray was not board-certified in any medical specialty
  • A recording of Michael Jackson prior to his death expressed a demeanor of incoherence on the drug Propofol.
  • Dr. Conrad Murray ordered an amount of Propofol enough to dose Michael Jackson 1,937 milligrams a day.
  • It was reported that Michael Jackson performance at practices preceding his death had been less then satisfactory.
  • Murray found Jackson unconscious at 11:56pm, 911 wasn’t called until 12:20a
  • Murray performed CPR to no avail.
  • Murray failed to inform the ER doctors about Jackson’s taking Propofol.
  • It was said the environment wasn’t fit for Propofol administration nor was it appropriate for insomnia.
  • After administering the drug the day of, he left Jackson’s bedside.
  • No informed consent documents were signed, needed resuscitation materials were readily accessible.
  • Defense said Jackson self administered extra doses while we was gone causing death and that no means could have revived him.
  • Murray’s interviews immediately after the death weren’t mediated by a lawyer. He told detectives he didn’t know what killed Jackson.
  • Murray said that he was weaning Jackson off the drug. He’d refused to administer the drug for 10 hours prior despite the pressure from Jackson.
  • Jackson was said to have been addicted to Demerol as well, as reported from a previous doctor in relation to his insomnia.

Okay. As I’m reading all the info, there is a lot to cover at this pace, so lets get tot the meat and potatoes. You came to my blog to hear my opinion and that what you’ll get. If you want more details check my source. Trial Updates and Summary

Dr. Conrad Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.  I will say that I agree with the conviction. To me, Jackson’s death resulted from Murray’s professionally obligated negligence. There were reports of him leaving Michael’s bedsides. He clearly stated that Michael Jackson had drug problems. That’s not a wise idea. he said he was weaning Jackson off of the drug. That make his massive order so outrageous. You don’t get someone off a drug by stockpiling. According to several sources, the drug wasn’t even meant for sleep deprivation. It’s wild because there were so many precautionary devices and substances not made available, reports not written and the like. He got way too comfortable. I can understand the pressure he was under. When you have the King of Pop making trying requests of you, there is a lil’ birdie in your ear saying, “Give the man what he wants.” But of course, we realize the Murray is a doctor and he isn’t paid to do what the patient wants. He’s on salary to do what the patient needs.

The topic of jail time is a big trend in the talk about the outcome. I don’t truly know how I feel about the jail time. Honestly, I need to research less publicized trials in which the patient’s death was due to the negligence of the physician. I just want the man to be treated fairly. If other trials like such resulted in jail time, then I could at least see the reasoning. From a religious standpoint because I am a Christian man, I don’t feel the necessity for punishment because I put judgment in the hands of the lord. I don’t know if Murray’s actions were an act of assassination or just plain incompetence. If he were to learn from this and never make the same mistake and go on to be a blessing to others, I would have no problem with him getting off sky free. Like I said, at this point I’m not sure whether I agree with incarceration in this matter. What I do know is that as a doctor he failed to make the right decisions ethically and morally. He didn’t follow the most critical of protocol. I feel that his license to practice in the medical field should be taken away because he could be endangering others. I wouldn’t argue with the possibility of recertification given the right circumstances and requirements are met. My reasoning is that I serve a forgiving god and I seek to be Christ-Like.

I will say this. I don’t like the huge crowds cheering for a trial. These are serious matters dealing with real lives. I think as a society we are being desensitized by the minute. Lets act like we have opposable thumbs and a thought process that seeks more than blind entertainment and selfish satisfaction.

What we need to learn from this:

  • Do your job. Don’t give anyone any reason to discredit you by reason of professional negligence.
  • Celebrities are real people with real problems. Drug abuse is a real problem.
